Hand-embroidered wooden fan, 2025.
Approx. A3 | One of a kind. Mounted - Not behind glass.
Embroidery thread on wooden fan, mounted on painted board in handpainted orange frame.
This piece was created using a traditionally feminine technique that has always brought me comfort when other parts of being a woman felt performative.
Like anything worth doing, it started as a half-forgotten note in an ideas folder that read “ I've an idea to work with a wooden fan. A fan on fire, that's interesting. “
I just love fans as a symbol of the demure feminine and as an another object that, in the wrong hands, can be turned against itself.
I stitched this without plans or rules, just finding rhythm and pattern in something no one else was looking for. You know yourself: divine hag moves.
